Seminar on climate change held at Jahangirnagar University

A daylong seminar titled ‘Climate Change and Bangladesh: Contemporary Perspective and Way Forward’ was held at the central auditorium of Jahangirnagar University on Saturday.

AUTUMN Foundation and Agro EDGE jointly organised the seminar with a view to raising awareness among the young generation and highly potential minds about impacts of climate change. Ahsan Uddin Ahmend, executive director of Centre for Global Change, addressed the function as chief guest with Dr Siddiqur Rahman Apollo of JU Environmental Science department in the chair.

Speakers said consumption of CFCs (Chloro Fluoro Carbons) is putting a great threat to the bio-diversity, resulting in an increase of saline water in the rivers of southern region of the country that will badly affect the crop production. They said natural calamities — drought, over flood, cyclones, tidal waves, Sidr and Aila — are severely striking Bangladesh due to the impact of climate change.
The speakers urged the young generation, next policy-makers, to be responsive to the actual fact of climate change and its adverse affects on the environment.
