Panorama at Nuisance

The journey started at last. It was Thursday night and we were thinking that whether we would be able to manage the bus ticket or not. Anyhow tickets were managed. We got the last 4 seats of the last trip of Cox’sbazar. The journey gave us some superfluous experience due to the reckless driving of the driver of the bus. But we reached Cox’sbazar at 10 am safely. From the town we hired a Tomtom to visit our destination “Marine Drive Road” which has been seriously damaged through landslides triggered by heavy shower. Tomtom started moving slowly towards the marine drive road. We were enjoying the beauty of sea and sea waves on the left side of the road. After crossing nearly one kilometer we saw a beautiful panorama. We had hills on the left side of the road and sea on the right side. Two or three tiny water falls were noticed. For a few moments we forgot about our mission. We were lost in the beauty of the nature. Although mesmerize and hypnotize are the same words, I would love to use both to explain our feelings: we were mesmerized and hypnotized.

All of a sudden the damaged side of the nature started to appear.  The whole scenario was different within a few minutes.Landslides triggered by heavy shower” the thing that dragged us to this part of the country was observable. Hills after hills were affected. The roads were muddy and broken on sides. The damn beside the road was broken. Few trucks and soldiers of the army were involved in cleaning muddy roads and repairing the broken damn. We noticed in some places, parts of the hills had fallen down with trees.

At last we reached the most damaged place “Himchari Military Camp” where five army personnel were killed and many were injured because of the land slides. We took permission from the army Check post to visit the affected area and to take some pictures. We witnessed that the area was awfully damaged. Sliding parts of the hills had fallen down on two edifices of the camp. Both were utterly smashed up. We saw that all the damaged parts of the structures were congregated at one corner. We noticed broken doors, smashed car, bumper, broken walls, bricks, furniture’s at that corner.

Talking with two soldiers we came to know that we were standing on the place where five of their colleagues were killed. They died even though they were not participating in a war; they were not ready to face this sudden attack of the nature. Now we have to think and judge the fact that if such kind of attack is made by the nature itself or it is us who are responsible behind the scene.
